Geneva Tourism

Organiser of the Fêtes de Genève

Tourism activity in Geneva is managed by the Geneva Tourism & Conventions Foundation (Genève Tourisme), their missions being defined by the law on tourism:

Promoting Geneva as a tourist destination

The Convention Bureau promotes Geneva as a destination for conventions. In Geneva, business tourism accounts for three-quarters of overnight stays; the impact for the city and its region is very strong. The Convention Bureau is positioned as the first point of contact for organisers of seminars, conventions and exhibitions. In 2014, a convention such as "ITI International Team for Implantology " generated 9,000 overnight stays.

In the area of leisure tourism, the marketing department promotes us as a destination abroad. The main objectives are generating overnight stays, increasing awareness and promoting Geneva's unique position in the heart of Europe. Genève Tourisme does important promotional work, particularly in the "BRIC" markets (Brazil, Russia, India, China), which play a vital role in the growth of overnight hotel stays.

Welcoming and informing tourists and visitors

Genève Tourisme's second mission is to ensure that visitors are welcomed and given quality information. For 4 years, mobile information units known as the "Geneva Tourist Angels", have been deployed in the summer in the areas most visited by tourists. This concept reflects a desire to welcome visitors and offer information in a fun way. The centre on Rue du Mont-Blanc was revamped in 2014, and there is a team of experts on hand there waiting to welcome visitors in an interactive space.

Bringing Geneva to life

The third task is to bring Geneva to life through events with a high degree of tourism outreach. With over 200 concerts put on for the public, Fêtes de Genève is the largest tourist event in Switzerland, attracting nearly 2 million visitors each year, with an economic benefit estimated at 125 million Swiss francs.

Amusement rides, shows and sports bring the lakeside to life for nearly four weeks. The highlight of the event, the Grand Fireworks display on 8 August, will light up the harbour in a magical way!

Organised by the Events Department of Genève Tourisme, the festival is self-financed under the sole responsibility of the Foundation. This summer, the region and all it offers - the terroir - is being honoured with the theme "Un air de campagne" - "a breath of country air".

The entire team at Genève Tourisme has embraced the challenge of continually improving the way we showcase our city's assets. They wish you a wonderful summer in Geneva.
