Waiters race

Sunday 10 August, 3:30 pm, Right Bank

Carrying two bottles and two glasses, and in uniform, Geneva's waitresses and waiters compete to see who can serve the fastest.
With trays at the ready, competitors line up for the start in categories. Men are divided into three groups: aged under 30, 31 to 40, and 41 and over.
For women, two groups are assembled: those under 40 and those aged 41 and over. New this year, the race will take place on the Quai du Mont-Blanc, between the Brunswick Monument and the Place Jean-Marteau.

Adopting a no-nonsense approach, the jury is very strict! Any candidate caught running during the race will be disqualified. Like extremely demanding customers, judges will check that glasses are always full and bottles intact. Any empty or half-full item will attract a one minute penalty. Those walking the course must show exceptional balance and swiftness to reach the finishing line without spilling or dropping anything en route.

The race is organised by the Société des Cafetiers, Restaurateurs et Hôteliers de Genève, with technical support from the Stade de Genève, the club which organises the Escalade race. Indeed the official timekeepers of the latter event will be responsible for recording the times achieved by the café waitresses and waiters. Members of the public for their part are invited to come and support staff from their favourite establishments by cheering them on as the race proceeds.

Practical info:
Registrations, managed by establishments, must be submitted no later than 4 August to the Société des Restaurateurs et Hôteliers de Genève . On 10 August, the race starts at 3:30 pm in front of the Brunswick Monument, finishing at the same spot.
