Practical Information
Recycling bins and refundable glasses
An evolving infrastructure and a strong team
Recycling is about protecting the environment and preparing for the future! Processing the 180 tonnes of waste generated by the festival has therefore been a priority for several years.
The recycling rate of 45% was not achieved by chance. It involves providing a solid system for visitors and stalls. Some 250 bins are distributed on the perimeter so that the road doesn't turn into a giant waste disposal area, and every food stall is equipped with a sorting centre to deal with waste at source.
Who could deny the ecological impact of thousands of take-away containers of fries served to hungry visitors? These days, 8,000 litres of oil are collected – compared to zero 10 years ago. This is a sign of the highest hygiene standards required to serve you with quality products.
Less waste, fewer polluting materials
Offering bio-compostable dishes and refundable glasses considerably reduces the environmental impact. No more tides of plastic cups and other pieces of broken glass littering the piers at the end of the evening's festivities... The 500,000 tumblers distributed enable a 20% reduction in the amount of waste generated. A new branded festival set is created for each year, which is how 10% of the glasses distributed each year are taken home by "collectors and enthusiasts."
A young and dynamic team
It is 4:00 am... while Geneva has barely gone to bed, the cleaning fairies arrive to have the area spotless by 7:00 am.
These are no fewer than 60 students, supervised by experienced professionals who are passionate about their work, together forming a team that is dynamic, friendly and highly motivated.
Some are regulars, while for others it is their first job ever. The youngest, aged just 16 years, ensure that there are staff on duty during the day and form a tight-knit group with their elders. Giving meaning to the tasks entrusted to them, they are committed and have a strong belief of being part of the festival!
Let's not disappoint them...
