Persons with reduced mobility

The Geneva Festival Organising Committee is always working hard to improve the amenities. That’s why everybody will notice improvements that make it easier to get from one place to another.

People with disabilities and reduced mobility want to be able to go where everybody else goes, in the simplest possible way. They appreciate the efforts to make the main Festival sites more accessible to everyone. One of the improvements in place again this year ... the space reserved at the beginning of the Mont-Blanc bridge for spectators in wheelchairs and those with reduced mobility who have purchased tickets for the Musical Fireworks Display on Saturday 10 August.

Jésus Fernandez (architect for the Geneva Festival) is doing everything possible to remove obstacles that persons with reduced mobility may encounter. Sites such as Funkytown, the Scène des Clubs and the stands on Quai Gustave-Ador are adapted to give all visitors the best possible welcome. And thanks to the ProCap-Andiamo Association, wheelchair participants on the slowUp route on Sunday 4 August will find solar-powered terminals to recharge their vehicles. "What's practical for us is practical for everybody!"

The strong points of the event, as seen by François Planche, long-time participant in the Geneva Festival and President of the Handicap Architecture Urbanisme (HAU) Association, are as follows: :

  • The nearby parking places reserved for disability badge holders.
  • More access ramps at stands and restaurants; they are flatter, sturdier and safer.
  • The help offered by other visitors when confronted with obstacles which are difficult to remove, and the friendliness of the stand owners when the service counter is (still) too high
  • The corridors between the stands, also appreciated by people pushing prams as well as by delivery staff!
  • The easy access to the ice-cream stands and snack-bars around the Lakefront.
  • The fact that electric cables are underground
  • Guaranteed access to clean toilets equipped with EURO-key cylinders.

The HAU Association wishes to thank the organisers!
