FunFair

Exhilarating moments

From 1 to 11 August

You love them. No, you adore them! So come along and enjoy all the excitement and thrills on offer, because if one thing is certain, it’s that funfairs are one of the public’s preferred pastimes during the Geneva Festival.

More than seventy attractions will be lined up along a 5 kilometre route, from the Quai Gustave-Ador to the Quai Wilson, with the Jardin Anglais in between. Seen from afar, it’s an elegant array of wheels, towers and trampolines, swings, chair rides, scenic railways and ghost trains stretching to the horizon. City residents, tourists and visitors of all ages are sure to put this annual rendezvous high on their list of things to do.

As well as trampolines, bumper cars, mini-scooters, carrousels, coconut shies and children’s roundabouts, major attractions are ready and waiting to give you the ride of your life.

The director of this fun-packed cavalcade is Raymond Wicky, the head of fairground attractions and a member of the Festival Organising Committee. It’s been hard work for him and his team to marshal contractors and assign the different attractions to their sites, ensure they are in working order and organise safety provisions, all the while maintaining close contact with the chief architect of Geneva Festival, Jésus Fernandez, the municipal services, cantonal and police authorities, and the highways and maintenance department. Let’s get this show on the road!

When the Big Wheel stops
at the Jardin Anglais

From 18 July, the beautiful and imposing Big Wheel opens the festivities. Lit up by a thousand lights, it is like a giant eye watching over its surroundings. Everybody, young and old, has seen the wheel, which rises to an impressive height. It has become part of the summer landscape of the city, swaying rhythmically in the air, with its beautiful old-fashioned gondolas. From the top, you are guaranteed the best views of the Lakefront, the Old Town and the surrounding mountains.
