9th slowUp Geneva Festival
A breath of fresh air
Sunday 4 August from 10 am to 4 pm
There’ll be riding, skating and walking on everywhere around the Geneva countryside. Come on everybody, let’s go!
The 9th edition of the Geneva Festival slowUp will be on a route reserved for non-motorised transport, with participants of all ages taking part on their bicycles, tricycles, skates or rollerblades and enjoying a truly exhilarating day in the left side of Swiss countryside. The slowUp rules dictate that anything that enables movement is permitted, provided it is not motorised. One year we even witnessed someone on horseback, notes Alexandre Afsary, who is in charge of slowUp for the Geneva Festival Committee. Perhaps this year we’ll see someone on stilts. Any takers?
A marvellous common ground
Attracting more than 30,000 participants each year, slowUp is always a great opportunity to discover local flavours, regional produce and other specialities, including fruits, apple juice, regional wines and a great variety of snacks. Various foodie tasters and titbits are on offer in Cologny, at the Rivollet farm and from the villagers in Gy, known locally as Gytans and Gytanes
As you can see, Sunday 4 August will be a day of sport, good fun and health.
On your marks, get set, go!
This year, as every year, the official (but not obligatory) start is at 10 am at the slowUp Village on the quai Gustave-Ador, with the return scheduled for 4 pm. You can start and finish wherever and whenever you like, and take it at your own pace.
The only rule is that everybody goes in the same direction! The Procap-Andiamo association offers support and assistance to people with reduced mobility, with specially trained staff, specialist facilities and/or carers. Feel free to get in touch with them: www.procap-andiamo.ch
The practical bit
Please come with equipment that is in good condition. If you are coming by bike, helmets are strongly advised. As always, there will be maintenance points along the course for small repairs and basic breakdown services. The same goes for those coming on skates – don’t think of protection and kneepads as an optional extra. The finish time must be noted and respected, given the high turnout. We would like to make it clear that after 4 pm the course is no longer secured for participants. However you do it, enjoy slowUp!
For the disabled participants, the wheelchairs are more than welcomes. With the support of Procap association who help people in different place on the course, by providing fixing point and battery charging.
